Symptoms of flu vaccination

Flu treatments are now more effective to stop the spread of the infectious diseases all over the world.

/Pharmaceutical PR News/ - NEW YORK, NY, October 29, 2006 - Many respiratory diseases occur every winter, but the flu can be one of the most severe. The illness is easily passed from one person to another through the air by tiny droplets released when an infected individual coughs or sneezes. Influenza is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus that affects five to 20 percent of the total U.S. population during each influenza season. Each year, more than 200,000 Americans are hospitalized and about 36,000 die from flu-related complications. Most deaths occur in people who are 65 or older. In 1918, before a flu vaccine was available, a flu pandemic killed an estimated 20-50 million people worldwide.

The flu is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, caused by influenza types A and B. The illness is easily passed from one person to another through the air by tiny droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Annual vaccination is the most effective measure in preventing seasonal flu and its severe complications.

Despite record supplies of influenza vaccine and new government recommendations to immunize more children, U.S. health officials fear that many people at high risk for contracting the virus will not get their annual flu shot this season, risking hospitalization and even death.

Misconceptions about the flu abound, infectious disease experts said Wednesday, and may prevent some people from taking part in the annual vaccination ritual. Speaking during a national briefing in Washington, seven panelists said vaccination is important because flu strikes one of every four people in the United States annually.
Medications such as relenza, tamiflu, amatadine, rimantadine effectively helps in treating the disease now days.
